Please note that this test is only available at our Bexleyheath Clinic. The rapid Covid-19 Nucleic Acid Amplification Technology (NAAT) test detecting viral RNA test requires a nasal swab to be collected in order to diagnose an active Covid-19 infection. This test can quickly identify if you are positive for Covid-19. A full report is provided with this result.

What is a Rapid COVID-19 RNA test?

Our Rapid COVID-19 RNA test is a molecular test that detects the RNA (Nucleic acid) component within SARS-CoV-2, which is the virus that causes Covid-19. Molecular tests are more accurate than antigen alternatives due to the process being more sensitive and specific, this allows for a clearer result.

How does a Rapid COVID-19 RNA test work?

The RNA test includes a Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) result, which is a subset of the molecular test, that searches for and detects the genetic material (RNA or nucleic acid) of SARS-CoV-2, this then amplifies small amounts of RNA into DNA and continues until Covid-19 is detectable, if present. Multiple cycles of amplification can be completed creating millions of copies of the genetic material of SARS-CoV-2, allowing this test to detect the virus in a very low sample.
